Latest Updates

So, I don't update things here anymore. Here's the rundown - I work for The Brian Madden Company with my longtime friend Brian Madden. We do a lot of work revolving around Server-Based Computing (Citrix and Terminal Server), VDI & Virtualization (VMware, XenServer, Parallels), and Application Streaming (SoftGrid, Citrix Streaming Server). So, if you want to see what I'm up to professionally, check me out at www.brianmadden.com.

For more information on what's going on with Kaylene, our new baby boy, Carson, and I, check out www.knuth-family.com.

Also, you can see all of our photos by visiting our Picasa Web Album at http://picasaweb.google.com/gabeknuth, and any videos we post at our YouTube site, located at www.youtube.com/user/gabeknuth.

Well, I beat out the previous estimates, but it's still been WAY too long since any updates. Not that anything I do is that interesting, but my literally TENS of visitors every month migh be thinking "I wonder what's happened with Gabe over the past 17 months?" What can I say, gotta please the misses...I mean masses.

Speaking of misses, or should I say, Mrs., being married is kind of cool. Sure, I joke about not having to fix the dishwasher anymore because I married one, but that's just the cover up. I think it's awesome. Plus, she's turning into a hell of a cook (and it shows). It was touch and go for a while there.

Not much more going on. We'll be looking for a house soon, and we're both excited about that. I also just hit two years working at Werner, which makes it the longest I've been with any single company. The list now stands at: Vanstar, Inacom, Frontway, Sarcom, NST, NST-Malone, and independent. My fingers got tired there.

That's it for me right now. No promises on the next update, since I never meet the deadline anyway!

Evidently, I don't update the site enough, so I can't blame those of you who still email me about independent consulting work. I always appreciate the opportunities that come along, but for this first time in my life, I have a "real job." I'm now the lead Microsoft Engineer at Werner Enterprises (the big blue semi trucks on the road). Pretty cool work, considering the amount of technology that goes into putting trucks on the road.

In other news...I got engaged last week! I moved to Omaha 4 years ago to be with Kaylene, and at long last, I sucked it up and proposed. My plan went off without a hitch, and the two of us couldn't be happier. We're planning on an October 15th wedding, but won't know for sure until we meet with the priest.

So, wish us luck. Maybe I'll update before 9 months is up, but if the pattern persists, it'll be July of 2008 before I get to it again!

I'm now an independent consultant! Something I've always thought about doing but never really had the guts to do. Well, a few opportunities were positioned to me, and I decided to take advantage of them while I can. After all, we can't all be swingin' bachelors forever, right?

I'm working on making a name for myself out there, and I've had a few clients already. My focus is primarily Citrix MetaFrame and Windows Terminal Services deployments, upgrades, and optimizations, but I also do some small to medium-sized AD and Exchange rollouts. See the Professional section for my background, and feel free to get in touch with me. Since I have time, I'll also be contributing to Brian's site a bit more, so if anyone has any ideas for articles or theories they'd like explained, let me know.

Another BrianMadden.com article has been posted, this time about how to use the Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine (MSDE) as your Citrix MetaFrame data store. I've used this before in small environments that require a centralized storage location, and it's worked quite well.

Keep your eyes peeled for some more articles. Future ideas are Bandwidth Management and Shaping Round-Up, and Imaging for Du**ies (avoiding trademark infringement).

Check out the Server-Based Computing Software Roundup on BrianMadden.com. It describes the major server-based computing platforms on the market today, and combines all of their main features into a comprehensive chart.
